Bruno Fernandes has once again become the subject of transfer speculation as Manchester United prepare for the new Premier League season. Galatasaray are reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder, but United have made their position clear: the captain is not currently for sale.
The 31-year-old remains one of the most influential players at Old Trafford after another outstanding individual campaign. His situation, however, has attracted attention because of his contract position and the substantial interest he previously received from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.
For Fernandes, the question is no longer simply about money. His future involves sporting ambition, loyalty to Manchester United and the possibility of experiencing a new challenge before entering the later stage of his career.
Galatasaray Show Interest in United Captain

Galatasaray have emerged as one of the clubs monitoring Fernandes during the summer transfer window.
Reports in England suggest the Turkish champions have considered an offer worth around €50 million and could provide Fernandes with a lucrative long-term contract. However, no official bid had been submitted when Manchester United’s position was reported.
United have no intention of negotiating a sale. Sky Sports reported that the club views Fernandes as a fundamental part of its plans and would reject offers for him during the current window.
That position is significant because Fernandes has entered the final year of his current deal, although United retain an option to extend his stay for another season. A release clause that could previously have allowed an overseas club to sign him for £57 million has also expired.
The midfielder himself has not informed United that he wants to leave.
Fernandes Remains Central to Manchester United

There is little mystery surrounding why United want to keep their captain.
Fernandes produced a remarkable 2025/26 Premier League campaign, registering 21 assists and breaking the competition’s single-season assists record. He was also recognised individually after playing a major role in United’s improvement.
Since arriving from Sporting CP in January 2020, Fernandes has become one of United’s most consistent attacking contributors. The club’s official profile describes him as a hugely influential presence in the dressing room and confirms that he has surpassed 100 goals for United across all competitions.
His importance extends beyond goals and assists. As captain, Fernandes remains central to how United create chances, control attacking transitions and set standards on the pitch.
Selling him shortly before the beginning of another demanding campaign would therefore leave United needing to replace both an elite creator and one of the squad’s primary leaders.
Al Hilal Offer Left a Lasting Impression

Galatasaray’s interest also brings last year’s situation with Al Hilal back into focus.
In June 2025, Fernandes confirmed that he had rejected a major proposal from the Saudi Pro League club. Al Hilal had been prepared to pay Manchester United a transfer fee reportedly reaching £100 million, while Fernandes was offered a contract worth significantly more than his salary in England.
Fernandes ultimately chose to remain in Manchester because he wanted to continue competing at the highest level in European football.
Months later, however, he admitted that the episode had left him disappointed. Fernandes said he felt some people inside United had been open to his departure, even though then-manager Ruben Amorim wanted him to remain.
That experience created uncertainty around his long-term relationship with the club. Fernandes nevertheless stayed and responded with one of his strongest Premier League seasons.
Staying at United Remains the Most Likely Outcome
For now, a move to Galatasaray appears difficult because United are refusing to entertain a sale. A return of Saudi interest cannot be ruled out in the longer term, especially as Fernandes previously acknowledged that he could eventually consider playing there, but there is no verified indication that an immediate move to Al Hilal is currently being negotiated.
From a sporting perspective, remaining at Old Trafford allows Fernandes to continue playing Premier League and European football while maintaining his central role in the team.
Galatasaray could potentially offer a major salary increase and the opportunity to compete for domestic trophies, while Saudi Arabia would provide another very different challenge if interest returned.
The decisive factor may ultimately be how Fernandes views the final major years of his career.
At present, Manchester United have removed much of the uncertainty by publicly taking a firm stance through reports from multiple British outlets: their captain is not for sale.
Unless Fernandes himself pushes for a departure or United unexpectedly change their position, the most likely outcome is that the Portuguese playmaker remains at Old Trafford for the 2026/27 season.
