Mitchy Ntelo Joins Aberdeen for New Scottish Premiership Challenge

Aberdeen have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of Belgian forward Mitchy Ntelo from Swiss side Yverdon-Sport FC, giving manager Stephen Robinson another versatile option ahead of the new season.

The 25-year-old has joined the Scottish club for an undisclosed fee on an initial two-year contract. Aberdeen also hold an option to extend the agreement for a third season, although the move remains subject to international clearance and UK visa formalities.

Ntelo becomes Aberdeen’s 13th signing of the summer, highlighting the scale of the squad rebuild taking place at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen Add Pace and Versatility

One of the biggest attractions behind Ntelo’s arrival is his ability to play in several attacking positions. Standing at 6ft 2in, the Belgian can operate as a traditional centre-forward but is also comfortable on either wing. Robinson has described him as a tall and exceptionally quick attacker whose versatility could give Aberdeen a different dimension.

Although many of his goals have come while playing centrally, Ntelo originally developed as a winger. That background could allow Aberdeen to use him in different systems depending on the opponent.

His pace may be particularly useful when the Dons want to attack space behind defensive lines, while his height gives Robinson another physical option around the penalty area.

Ntelo Brings Experience From Several European Leagues

Ntelo was born in Liège and developed through the academy system at Standard Liège before beginning a career that has already taken him across several European leagues.

A productive spell with Dutch club MVV Maastricht helped him gain attention. Aberdeen say he scored 10 goals in 24 starts during his time in the Netherlands. He later returned to Belgium to join Royal Charleroi before looking elsewhere for more regular first-team football.

That search took him to Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria, where his performances improved significantly. He scored six times in 14 starts before earning a move to Yverdon-Sport in Switzerland.

The range of leagues in his career means Scotland will not be his first experience adapting to a different football environment.

Yverdon Spell Followed by Return to Bulgaria

Ntelo joined Yverdon-Sport in August 2024 and made 35 appearances for the Swiss club, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

After Yverdon’s relegation, the forward returned to Bulgaria on loan with Botev Vratsa in early 2026. The move proved productive, with Aberdeen reporting that he scored six goals in six starts as Botev fought to preserve their top-flight status.

That run of form appears to have reinforced Aberdeen’s interest. Robinson said the club had monitored Ntelo for some time and believes his combination of speed, athleticism and willingness to work can suit the demands of the Scottish game.

Scottish Football Presents a New Test

The Scottish Premiership will still represent a fresh challenge. Matches can be physically intense, with teams often placing significant demands on forwards when pressing, contesting aerial balls and holding possession under pressure.

Ntelo’s physical profile appears suited to those requirements, but adapting to a new country, teammates and tactical system may take time.

Robinson has acknowledged that process, while also stressing that Aberdeen believe there is further development to come from the Belgian attacker. At 25, Ntelo arrives at an age where he already has substantial senior experience but should still have room to improve.

Competition for Places Could Benefit Aberdeen

His arrival also creates increased competition in Aberdeen’s forward line. The club’s current attacking group includes options such as Kevin Nisbet, Kusini Yengi, Toyosi Olusanya and Ayoub Mouloua, meaning Ntelo will need to earn his place.

However, his ability to play both centrally and out wide could make him easier to integrate without relying on one fixed role. That flexibility may allow Robinson to change shape during matches or rotate players during busy periods.

For Ntelo, the transfer represents another opportunity to establish himself in a new league after spells in Belgium, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Switzerland.

He has described the move as an important step in his career and said Aberdeen’s history and support made the opportunity particularly attractive.

The immediate task will be adapting quickly enough to contribute in Scotland. If Ntelo can reproduce the pace and goalscoring form he showed during his strongest spells in Bulgaria and the Netherlands, Aberdeen may have added a forward capable of offering both depth and tactical flexibility during the 2026-27 campaign.
